• The Stiftung Warentest consumer survey awards top marks for power one hearing aid batteries
• Testers praise the high-quality performance of the cell batteries

On the occasion of World Hearing Day on 3 March 2018, the World Health Organisation (WHO), together with national partners, is calling attention to the key significance hearing has for people. The worldwide day of action should serve to point out the causes, risks and potential consequences of hearing loss, as well as suitable ways of preventing it, diagnosing it at an early stage, and ensuring the best possible care. The backdrop for this action is the fact that around 5% of the global population – which corresponds to around 360 million people – suffers from disabling hearing loss. For these people, it is important to organise their everyday lives in a problem-free way as far as possible using high-quality hearing aids. In addition to the technology of the device, its energy provision is also of key importance. The Stiftung Warentest emphasises the extent to which this is dependent on quality in their current ‘Test’ booklet, in which the power one batteries come off as the winner of the test.

Stiftung Warentest gives power one the top mark of 1.8

“Hearing – the sense of life“ is not only the central theme of World Hearing Day, but also gets right to the heart of the importance of this sense. Your sense of hearing is the only one which ‘works‘ around the clock, it orients us, warns us of dangers, and is the basis for all interpersonal communication. It is thus all the more important to protect your sense of hearing and, in the case of hearing loss, to treat this as well as possible. In this regard, hearing aids are indispensable. Hearing aids require a high-quality, long-lasting provision of energy so that they can provide the best-possible performance from day-to-day. In their most current test of hearing aid batteries, the Stiftung Warentest has confirmed that power one delivers the appropriate batteries. In the category for the smallest hearing aid batteries for in-ear devices (Type 10), and the category of medium-sized round cell batteries for behind-the-ear hearing aids (Type 312), power one achieved the best performance among the 14 batteries tested, receiving the grade of 1.8. Special attention was paid to power one’s exceptional battery capacity.

Torsten Schmerer, General Manager Business Unit Retail at VARTA Microbattery, was very happy with this evaluation: “The positive findings of this test are the result of our permanent work towards research and development, and the know-how in batteries which we have developed over 130 years. This is how we are regularly able to produce innovative products.“ The production of power one batteries is certified, and takes place in an automated process with 100% quality control. It is carried out exclusively in Germany. Schmerer adds: “We have the largest and most modern production facility for hearing aid batteries worldwide“.

In their current test, the Stiftung Warentest highlights the performance of power one batteries as well as their ease of handling for its users. This is based on the innovative, convenient and resealable packaging, which makes their transportation safe, whereby the double-layered cardboard prevents the battery from falling out. A seal of quality ensures the freshness of the batteries. Furthermore, the packaging material is environmentally friendly due to its FSC-certified blister card, sourced from sustainable forestry management.

several billion microbatteries produced

VARTA Microbattery, a subsidiary of VARTA AG, has been producing hearing aid batteries for almost 15 years. Since then, several billion microbatteries have left our assembly line. Around 25 million people worldwide can now hear reliably once more thanks to their battery from Ellwangen.

Herbert Schein, CEO of VARTA AG, explains that “We feel particularly strongly about supporting the early recognition of hearing damage in teenagers, as the rising number of hearing impairments worldwide is frightening“. In addition to World Hearing Day, power one has also been campaigning with the French initiative Journeé Nationale de l’Audition JNA since 2015, which focuses on hearing protection through campaigns such as free hearing tests at hearing centres and informational events at educational institutions. In contrast to World Hearing Day, the JNA arranges hearing events throughout the entire year.

In addition to the JNA, VARTA supports several nationally and globally active foundations that are committed to the needs of people with hearing impairment.
